Muscle Relaxant Injections

At our clinic, Botulinum toxin injections are a frequently administered treatment aimed at managing neuromuscular activity in targeted areas of the face. Botulinum toxin is a prescription only medicine used to reduce overactivity of specific muscles, which may contribute to a range of functional or medically-associated concerns.

Botulinum toxin may be used, following clinical assessment, to:

  • Modulate facial muscle contractions contributing to dynamic lines or tension-related movement

  • Support the management of functional concerns, such as bruxism, chronic facial tension, or periorbital strain

  • Interrupt the development of new muscular stress patterns that may result in repetitive strain or involuntary facial expressions

  • In certain cases, assist in the treatment of psychosocial discomfort arising from involuntary or exaggerated muscular activity

Treatment is delivered by qualified medical professionals and only following a face-to-face consultation to determine medical suitability. The procedure typically requires minimal downtime and may be part of an ongoing muscle modulation care plan, reviewed periodically to monitor clinical benefit.

How does it work?

Botulinum toxin (commonly known by brand names such as Botox) is a neuromodulator used to selectively reduce muscle activity by temporarily inhibiting the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction.

This mechanism reduces involuntary or excessive muscle contractions in targeted areas, allowing overlying tissues to recover from chronic tension, asymmetric muscle pull, or movement-related skin stress. In appropriate clinical cases, this can help manage conditions such as bruxism, facial pain, or repetitive strain in expressive muscle groups.

Treatment is typically well tolerated, minimally invasive, and performed during a brief in clinic session. Suitability is assessed individually through consultation with a medical professional.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Frown (Glabellar Region)
Overactivity of the corrugator and procerus muscles can lead to vertical lines between the eyebrows (often referred to as ‘glabellar lines’ or ’11s’). In some individuals, this may contribute to facial tension, eye strain, or discomfort from involuntary muscle contraction. Botulinum toxin may be used to modulate this activity, supporting muscle relaxation and helping alleviate excessive strain in the glabellar region.

Forehead (Frontalis Region)
Persistent movement of the frontalis muscle may result in horizontal lines across the forehead. In certain cases, this can contribute to chronic tension, repetitive movement discomfort, or involuntary expression. Treatment with Botulinum toxin can assist in reducing muscle overactivity, allowing for more balanced facial muscle function and relief from excessive motion in the upper face.

Crow’s Feet (Periorbital Region)
Dynamic lines around the eyes, also known as lateral canthal lines, can result from repetitive contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscles. In some individuals, this may be associated with ocular fatigue, squinting related discomfort, or muscle strain. Targeted Botulinum toxin treatment can help reduce this activity and improve periorbital muscle balance.

Please note: All treatments require a full medical and psychosocial assessment to determine clinical appropriateness. Treatments are only provided where there is a clear therapeutic benefit, and we reserve the right to decline treatment if it is not deemed clinically suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, just 1 session is needed to give the desired outcome, but a repeat session may be needed after 2 weeks. This repeat session is included in the price.

The appointment, including a consultation, will take around 15 minutes – many people come in on their lunch break. You may see some small marks or bumps at first, but these will go away within a few hours.

It takes 2-5 days for the treatment to take effect, with peak onset being at 2 weeks. The treatment typically lasts for 3 months, which varies depending on lifestyle factors (e.g. those who exercise daily will find the treatment duration is shorter).

Your appointment will begin with a consultation to ensure that the treatment is suitable for your needs. Providing you wish to go ahead, your doctor will take pre-treatment photography to assess how you respond to the injections and dose. Next, the doctor will administer a very fine needle to the treatment area to inject the product.

After your treatment, we recommend that you do not apply any make-up for 4 hours. Avoid heavy exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. After 2 weeks, assess the results. If you would like a more dramatic result, you can request a dose adjustment.

Each of the areas described count as one area. For best results a combination of areas (e.g. frown and forehead) is advised for best results.

  • 1 Area £250-300
  • 2 Areas £300-350
