filler dissolving

Filler dissolving is a medically indicated treatment used to correct issues arising from the placement of hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers. Patients may require this procedure due to product migration, asymmetry, overfilling, or complications such as inflammatory response, vascular compromise, or delayed swelling. The treatment involves injecting hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid filler, allowing it to be safely reabsorbed by the body.

Treatment is typically considered where the presence of filler is causing functional disruption, tissue imbalance, or clinical concern. The lips are one of the most commonly treated areas, although filler dissolving can be performed in any region where hyaluronic acid has been used.

WHY WOULD DERMAL FILLERS NEED TO BE DISSOLVED?

There are several medically appropriate reasons why patients may require the dissolution of hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers. In some cases, excess filler volume may result in soft tissue distortion, functional imbalance, or asymmetry. Other patients may present following previous treatment in which filler has migrated, causing unintended contour changes or affecting the integrity of surrounding tissues.

Hyaluronic acid based fillers are reversible using hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down the filler material so that it can be safely reabsorbed by the body. Treatment is considered on a case-by-case basis following full clinical consultation and assessment. Filler migration may occur due to a variety of factors, including technique, filler rheology, or patient-specific anatomical variations. While not common, such issues may interfere with tissue function or contribute to undesirable changes in facial structure that necessitate reversal for therapeutic reasons.

In rare but serious cases, filler can be inadvertently introduced into a blood vessel, leading to vascular occlusion. This condition, if not addressed promptly, may impair blood flow and lead to tissue compromise. In such instances, hyaluronidase is used as part of an emergency management protocol to dissolve the obstructing material and restore circulation. Filler dissolving is always carried out in a clinical setting under medical supervision, with appropriate safety measures and protocols in place.

Please note: All treatments require a full medical and psychosocial assessment to determine clinical appropriateness. Treatments are only provided where there is a clear therapeutic benefit, and we reserve the right to decline treatment if it is not deemed clinically suitable.
