The tear trough (nasojugal groove) is a defined anatomical region beneath the eye that can be affected by age related volume loss, fat pad descent, or congenital hollowing. In some individuals, this results in a deepening of the groove, which may alter the appearance of the lower eyelid cheek junction and contribute to facial asymmetry or disproportion.
Volume loss in this area may also create shadows that can give the impression of discolouration or under eye hollowness. Where clinically appropriate, dermal filler may be used to restore soft tissue volume, improve contour, and reestablish support in the infraorbital region. Treatment is delivered following medical consultation and may be offered as part of a broader care plan to address structural deficits or tissue degeneration.
